Dozens of youngsters who are fighting or have fought cancer enjoyed themselves Sunday during the 30th annual Family Picnic at Fairmount Park in Riverside.

The Loma Linda based Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California and the California Correctional Peace Officers Association hosted the children and their families. Most have been treat at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital.

Several games and activities were held including water balloon tosses, three legged races and a tug of war.

The California Correctional Peace Officers Association worked the barbecue cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs for the families.

“Families escape from their daily lives at the hospital and have a great time in an old-fashioned family picnic,” cancer foundation officials said. “There’s no better medicine than being surrounded by family, friends, and good food!”
