Neil Derry Pleads Guilty

The San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor takes a plea deal and admits guilt to a misdemeanor. The AG has dropped the felony charges.

San Bernardino County Supervisor Neil Derry pleaded guilty to misdemeanor failing to report a campaign contribution in San Bernardino County Superior Court today as part of a plea deal that included the dismissal of felony charges against him.

Derry, the third district supervisor representing Loma Linda, was sentenced to three years informal probation and fined $1,000 with an additional $5,000 in penalty assessments, state attorney general officials said.

In return, the Attorney General’s Office dismissed the perjury and filing false statement charges. As part of the agreement, Derry must cooperate with the Fair Political Practices Commission, Attorney General officials said.

A 30-day jail sentence was suspended. And Judge Michael Dest, who accepted the plea deal, denied the AG’s request to bar him from running for office for four years, state officials said.

The California State Attorney General’s office filed the charges in April accusing the supervisor of laundering between $5,000 and $10,000 in campaign contributions through a political action committee.

State officials said Derry knowingly submitted a campaign report that did not list the contributions.
