Redlands Native Helps Everton Defeat English Premier League Leaders 1-0

The match was decided on a 60th-minute goal by Darron Gibson, who received the ball from Landon Donovan, 29, on-loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

A soccer player from Redlands helped Everton Football Club of Liverpool defeat English Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0 on Tuesday.

The match at Everton's Goodison Park was decided on a 60th-minute goal by Darron Gibson, who received the ball from Landon Donovan, 29, on-loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

It was Donovan's seventh match of the month for Everton, where he has earned praise from teammates, coaching staff, supporters and news media.

On Friday, Donovan set up both Everton goals in Liverpool as his team defeated Fulham FC of London 2-1 in England's FA Cup competition.

The result Tuesday dropped Manchester City into a tie for the league lead with Manchester United, with both sides even on 54 points. Manchester City still led on goal difference.

Everton's win moved them up to ninth in the 20-team Premier League.

Donovan is expected to return to the Galaxy in March for the start of the 2012 Major League Soccer season.
