Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is March 22. Here are a few things you might want to know today.

SWEATER WEATHER: We may be looking at having a sunny day, but it sure won’t be warm. The National Weather Service predicts a high near 61 degrees. Patches of fog may roll into the area after 11 p.m., eventually becoming partly cloudy with a low around 45 degrees.

VEGETARIAN WAYS: Good news, Hometown Buffet serves vegetarian gravy. I noticed it the other day. Hometown is where I take my family when no one can agree on what to eat. It’s one of the things I love about Loma Linda and its residents. They not only advocate health and spirit, that includes for most a vegetarian diet, they live it.

WRITER’S CLUB: Grab your, um, quills. The Barnes and Noble Bookstore at the Citrus Plaza Shopping Center will hold its Redlands Writing Club at 5 p.m. The books store is at 27460 Lugonia Ave, Redlands Information: (909) 793-4322. You may want to call to make sure the event has not been canceled. You may also contact coordinator Judith Ring for more information: ring_ju@sbcity.org

NO MEETING: Just a reminder for those of you who may be wondering. There is no City Council meeting tonight. I expected to find the agenda for this week's meeting, but then realized there would be no meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for April 12.

BIG HONOR: This just came in from the Loma Linda Veterans Affairs office. On June 30, Sofia Puerto, PhD, RN, and an Associate Chief of Nursing Education and Research at the medical center received the Registered Nurse in Expanded Role Award from Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. The VA Secretary's Awards in Nursing Excellence program honors a medical center director, nurse executive, registered nurse in a staff nurse role and one in a non-staff nurse role, licensed practical nurse and a nursing assistant who actively engage in the care of patients at a VA Medical Center, according to a hospital news release.  The award is a sought-after recognition that is only given once to an individual, officials said. It comes a bit late, but congratulations to Puerto.
