Five Things You Need To Know Today

Today is May 3. Here are a few things you might want to know today.

HEATING UP: We’re getting warmer. National Weather Service meteorologists predict a sunny day with a high near 93 degrees. Tonight should be clear with a low around 54, weather officials said.

WHAT’S THAT SOUP?: Some of you may remember that I am a fan of Mr. Kebab’s on California Street near Barton Road. They don’t seem to be listed in the Loma Linda Patch directory because technically they have a Redlands address. Hmmm. In any case, I’m a fan. They don’t have a website, but occasionally I find a review on them on other sites. I found this comment recently, “Came here for the lunch buffet with the mother. The location is new, thus very clean and nice. The lunch buffet offers quite a lot, and all of it is pretty good. What stood out was the soup. I wish I knew the name... it was like a tomato based soup with meatballs in it. I had about 3 bowls...” I’ve never tried the soup. But I’m now intrigued. Anyone know what the name of that soup is?

UKULELE FESTIVAL: The Loma Linda Ukulele Strummers are sponsoring the ninth annual Inland Empire Ukulele Festival today from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Glenn Clement is scheduled to perform with the “Pineapple Jam Singers.” Admission is a $10 donation. The festival will be held at Azure Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church, 22633 Barton Road, Grand Terrace. Participants will be on their own for lunch. Organizers encourage people to patronize the local restaurants for those who do not bring their own lunch. There will be an Open Mic in the morning and in the afternoon.

Members of several emergency service agencies are scheduled to attend and meet the public, museum officials said. The event will be held in the museum’s parking lot from. Admission to the outside events are free. Organizers expect to have ladder trucks, ambulances, motorcycles and prowl cars. At 2 p.m., visitors are welcomed to attend a lecture by Museum Director Robert McKernan, “A Bird’s Nest Tells Many Stories,” in the museum. This lecture is included with paid museum admission. The Museum is at 2024 Orange Tree Lane. Information: www.sbcountymuseum.org.

GOLF TOURNEY: Steven’s Hope For Children Foundation is counting down to its Golf Tournament fundraiser. The event is set for May 12 at Sierra La Verne Country Club, 6300 Country Club Drive, La Verne. The annual tournament is a fun day for novice and low handicappers, officials said. Golfers get lunch and dinner and goodie bags. The foundation is still looking for volunteers.
