Five Things You Need To Know Today

Today is May 12. Here are a few things you might want to know today.

WARMING UP: We were cold, now we're warm. There’s nothing like wacky temperatures. National Weather officials expect today will be sunny with a high near 86 degrees. Tonight should be mostly clear with a low around 59 degrees weather officials said.

SUPPORT GROUP: The Loma Linda VA will again host the Vet to Vet Peer Support Group Orientation at 11 a.m. at the medical center, 2E-37A. The medical center is at 11201 Benton St. The group offers support for veterans.

PUBLIC MEETING: The second Redlands Passenger Rail Project information meeting is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. It will be held at the Santa Fe Depot, 1170 W. Third St. in San Bernardino. Project team members will present a new, phased approach to starting passenger rail service between the City of San Bernardino and the University of Redlands, organizers said. A presentation will be made at 5:15 p.m. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

PUBLIC WORKS: If you’ve ever wondered who designs and builds our roads and bridges, the San Bernardino County Museum will present an event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, titled “Public Works: Serving You and Your Community.” Organized by the San Bernardino County Public Works Department, this event is included with paid museum admission. The museum is at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands. It is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for military or seniors, $5 for students and $4 children 5 to 12. Children under 5 and Museum Association members are admitted free. Information: www.sbcountymuseum.org.

BIG THANK YOU: The Loma Linda University Children’s reminds everyone that today is the last day of National Nurses Week. “Our nurses at LLUCH are awesome and we thank you for your daily hard work and dedication. Give a shout out to a nurse today!” they wrote on their Facebook page. I have to agree.
