Five Things You Need To Know Today

Today is May 31. Here are a few things you might want to know today.

SUNNY WORK DAY: It’s back to the grind today, but at least we’re being promised a nice day. National Weather Service officials said it will be sunny with a high near 81 degrees. Tonight should be mostly clear with a low around 56 degrees, officials said.

BOOK FAIR: It’s hard to believe that June is a day away. The Friends of the A.K. Smiley Library reminds readers that they will host a Book Fair at Barnes and Noble June 4. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the store at the Citrus Plaza 27460 Lugonia Ave. in Redlands. The event supports Redlands Adult Literacy program and is sponsored by The Friends of the A.K. Smiley Public Library. See the event link for full details.

PLANNING COMMISSION: It’s back to business for Loma Linda’s commissions and committees. The Planning Commission meets Wednesday. A preview of the meeting is planned for publication a bit later today. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the council chambers, 25541 Barton Road.

FALSE RUMOR: Before some of you get your hopes up, famed rapper Tupac Shakur is not alive. A rumor that Shakur, who was shot and killed in 1996, is alive and living in New Zealand, is not true. And the PBS web story that made the report look official was the work of a hacker, PBS officials said. The story spread quickly on Facebook and Twitter, according to news reports. The Lulz Boat has claimed responsibility for the incident. The intruder did not post the Tupac web update to the PBS site, but Tweeted information for staffers, the PBS network, and password info for PBS stations.

CAR GROOMING: The Redlands Animal Shelter is offering to groom your car. The organization is holding a Car "Grooming" Benefit for the Redlands Animal Shelter from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. June 4 at the Redlands Animal Shelter, 504 N. Kansas St., Redlands. A $10 or more donation is suggested.
