Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is June 7. Here's some things coming up in and around your neighborhood.

STILL SPRING: After a slight amount of rain overnight Sunday into Monday, the weather promises to continue clearing today. National Weather Service officials are forecasting a mostly cloudy day, with gradual clearing and a high around 78 degrees. Overnight, the clearing will continue, with a low of about 53 degrees. The forecast calls for continued mild days, with temperatures reaching the low 80s the rest of the week.

GIFT OF LIFE: The Lifestream Bloodmobile will be outside Loma Linda University Medical Center today accepting blood donations. Donors must be 15 years or older (with parental consent for those 15 and 16) and be in good physical health. The truck will be parked near the Children's Hospital entrance from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All donors will be eligible to receive a voucher for discounted admission to Knott's Soak City Water Park in Palm Springs, and multiple donations will earn a free admission ticket to any Soak City location. For information, visit Lifestream's website.

DIABETIC LESSONS: Dr. Robin Lie, a Loma Linda podiatrist, will be a guest speaker for the Loma Linda University Adult Diabetes Treatment Center lecture at 6:15 p.m. tonight. The lecture will discuss the prevention and early recognition of early foot problems in diabetics. The event will be at the Loma Linda Spanish SDA Church, 11135 Mountain View Ave., in the Clark's Nutrition shopping center.

GRADUATION DAY: The final public school with ties to Loma Linda, albeit very small ties, will graduate its students today. Colton High School will have its commencement exercises today at 6 p.m. at the school. It may be one of the final times Loma Linda students may attend the school, as Grand Terrace High School is slated to open in August 2012. To follow the progress of Grand Terrace High School, go to the Colton Joint Unified School District's website.

FAMILY HEALTH: Arrowhead United Way will be offering a health education workshop as part of its Community Health Awareness program today at 6:30 p.m. The freeworkshop, to be held at Nicholson Park Family Learning & Community Resource Center, 2750 W. Second St. in San Bernardino, will focus on proper nutrition planning and obesity prevention, teaching participants how to read food labels and find healthy foods at inexpensive prices. The program is presented by students from Loma Linda University's School of Public Health. For information, contact Monique Rodriguez at (909) 884-9441 ext. 222 or by email at MoniqueR@ahuw.org.
