Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is June 8. Here are five things coming up in your community.

STAYING CALM: The weather will remain pleasant for the most part today, according to National Weather Service forecasters. They are predicting a calm, mostly sunny day with the high temperature to reach about 79 degrees. Overnight, expect some patchy fog after 11 p.m., with lows dipping down to about 53 degrees, with wind gusts up to 20 mph.

DIETARY ASSISTANCE: Loma Linda University's Center for Health Promotion, through its Wholistic Medicine Clinic, offers a free monthly cooking and nutritional demonstration for those looking to live gluten and dairy free. The program, funded by a grant from Riverside Community Health Foundation, runs tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the LLU Department of Nutrition and Dietetics - School of Allied Health. SMALL BUSINESS HELP: Entrepreneurs looking for advice are invited to a free workshop co-sponsored by the city of Redlands, SCORE Inland Empire and the Southwest Veterans Business Resource Center. Titled "Empowering the Entrepreneur," the workshop will be led by Dr. Michael Stull, a professor at Cal State San Bernardino. The workshop will be June 28, with registration opening at 7:30 a.m., and a 90-minute lecture beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the Redlands City Council Chambers. DRIVING DINNER: They may not be allowed in most cities in San Bernardino County, but Inland Empire foodies will finally get a chance to try some of the best gourmet food trucks from Southern California at the Inland Empire Food Truck Fest on June 18 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Fifty trucks are expected to make the trek to the Inland Empire, and there will be music, a kids area and a roller derby demonstration. General admission tickets are $8 and VIP tickets, which include early admission, are $25. Tickets are available at their website.
