Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is June 10. Here are a few things happening in and around your community.

NO CHANGES IN THE WEATHER: Patchy fog seems to be the phrase of the weekend. National Weather Service officials are forecasting the low clouds will remain until 11 a.m., with gradual clearing following throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to remain around 81 degrees. The patchy fog will return after 11 p.m., with overnight lows around 58 degrees.

GRADUATION WEEKEND: Today marks the start of ceremonies for the remaining members of the Class of 2011 from Loma Linda University. Members of the School of Science and Technology will have hooding ceremonies today. The Department of Social Work & Social Ecology will have its at 10:30 a.m. at the University Church, while the rest of the classes will meet at 3 p.m. at the Centennial Complex in the Chen Fong Conference Room. There will be a pinning ceremony for the School of Allied Health Professions - Nutrition & Dietetics at 4 p.m. The day will end with a Vesper Service at 7:30 p.m. at the University Church. LOPERS MOVE: Speaking of graduation activities, Sunday's five ceremonies will displace members of the Loma Linda Lopers who normally train Sunday morning at the Drayson Center. Members will instead meet at 6:30 a.m. at Hulda Crooks Park.

ARE YOU PREPARED? The City of Redlands, along with other city and fire agencies, are reaching out to local residents to remind them of a new law that requires inside most homes. Homes with an attached garage or that use fossil fuels must install the detectors by July 1, under a new state law. Owners of apartments and multi-family leased homes have until Jan. 1, 2013.
