Five Things You Need to Know Today
Today is June 20. Here are a few things going on in and around your community.
HERE COMES THE HEAT: The morning low clouds will be gone in the Inland Empire today, according to the National Weather Service. Their forecast is calling for sunny skies with a high around 91 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will only get down to around 62 degrees. The forecast has the temperatures rising gradually the rest of the week.
SCHOOL'S OUT: Bryn Mawr Elementary School is closing out the school year this week for students on tracks B, C and D. This will be the school's last time on a year-round schedule, as Mission Elementary School opens to students this summer. The school will be having awards assemblies today for students on track C (7:50-9 a.m.) and track B (1-1:55 p.m.) and Tuesday for track D (7:50-9 a.m.). Fifth-grade promotion exercises will be Wednesday for all three tracks from 8 to 9 a.m., and fifth grade party will be Thursday at Fiesta Village from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
BILINGUAL STORYTIME: The A.K. Smiley Library in Redlands will be offering storytime for children in two languages tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. Held in the Young Readers Room, tonight's storytime will be in English and Chinese, with songs and stories shared. The library offers two bilingual storytimes a week, with an English/Spanish session on Saturdays. For information, go to the library's website.

MUSEUM ACTIVITIES: Wednesday will mark the first of the San Bernardino County Museum's "Avoid Summer Brain Drain" activity days. The program, free with paid admission, will offer a potluck of activities aimed at children ages 3 to 12. Activities will range from painting fossils to sidewalk chalk art to sorting rocks. The program is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday through Aug. 5. For more information, check the museum's calendar listings.
GIFT OF LIFE: There will be plenty of opportunities to give blood this week in Loma Linda and Redlands. Lifestream will be have the bloodmobile out from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in front of Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Thursday, there will be bloodmobiles out at Mountain View Plaza in Loma Linda from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chick-fil-A in Redlands from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and in front of the Faculty Medical Offices from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. To find a location near you, go to the Lifestream website.
