Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is June 23. Here are a few things happening in and around your community.

A LITTLE COOLER: National Weather Service officials are forecasting a cooler day today, but it may still be a bit too hot to notice. Today's forecast calls for high temperatures around 92 degrees. The cool down will intensify overnight, with a low expected to be around 57 degrees. The cooling trend should continue Friday, with temperatures expected to return to the high 80s.

FLASHBACK FUNDRAISER: The Associates of the Redlands Bowl will be going back to the 1980s for its annual gala fundraiser Saturday at Smiley Park. The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature auction items, dinner and dancing, with legendary former KROQ DJ Richard Blade (now heard daily on Sirius/XM's First Wave) spinning the tunes. Cost is $95 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival and Young Artist Scholarships. For information or reservations, call (909) 239-4816 or email MChurch907@aol.com, or check their website.

BENEFIT AUCTION: Loma Linda University Children's Hospital will be one of nine charities that will receive donations from funds raised from proceeds earned from cars being auctioned off this weekend at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The second annual Barrett-Jackson Orange County Auction will be held Friday through Sunday, and feature the sale of classic and custom cars. Eight of the cars have designated as charity cars, and all consignment and commission fees will be waived to increase the money going to the organizations. The event is open to the public, and tickets are available online at the Barrett-Jackson website, as well as a list of cars up for auction and other charities that will receive funds.
