Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is June 29. Here are a few things happening in and around your community.

WEATHER: The Inland region should get a brief respite from temperatures over 90 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. Their forecast for today calls for a high temperature around 85 degrees under clear skies. Overnight will remain clear, with a low around 56 degrees. And that respite will be short, with temperatures quickly climbing back near 100 by Friday.

CAR DRAWING: There's still time to get in on the chance to win a new car, and help Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. The hospital foundation is selling only 1,400 tickets for the chance to win their choice of car, donated by Walter's Automotive Group of Riverside. First prize will be a white gold diamond bracelet valued at $2,500. Second prize will be a VIP weekend package for next year's NASCAR race at California Speedway, and third prize will be a men's watch valued at $450. Each ticket into the drawing costs $100. For information, go to the foundation's website.

LIBRARY FUN: The Loma Linda branch library will have events today and Thursday as part of its youth summer reading program. At 4 p.m. today, there will be a concert featuring Hullabaloo, providing free-range, organic kid-folk songs. The duo had one of the top 10 children's albums of 2010 according to Parents magazine. Thursday, the Loma Linda Library staff will perform with panda puppets. For information, check the library's website.
