Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is July 3. Here are a few things happening in and around your community.

STILL HOT: We probably don’t even have to tell you, but it’s going to be another scorcher. National Weather Service officials are forecasting the high to be near 100 again today, with a west wind blowing about 5 mph. Tonight, should be partly cloudy, with a low around 66 degrees, with winds gusting as high as 20 mph. We may start cooling a little Monday for the holiday, with the high expected to dip down below the century mark to around 98 degrees.

YOUNG ACTORS: The Stars of Tomorrow Children’s Theater is introducing a new camp for budding thespians called Just for Teens. The programs offers advanced acting techniques, audition methods, enhanced character development, melodrama, tragedy, comedy, modern theater, Shakespeare and more, organizers said. The camp runs  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5, 6, 7 and tuition is $200. A performance will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the University of Redlands, Frederick Loewe Black Box Theatre, organizers said. Youngsters can register the same day or visit the website. Organizers ask campers bring a sack lunch. No flip-flops please.

MAN'S MAN: Television, radio and Internet personality Adam Corrola will bring his style of comedy to San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino on Thursday. The host of "Loveline" and "The Man Show" has branched out to become one of the top podcasters on the Web. Tickets for the show are $15 and $20, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For information about upcoming shows at San Manuel, check out their website.

TICKLING THE IVORIES: The deadline to register for the University of Redlands Summer Piano Camp has been extended to Tuesday. The two-week camp runs from July 25 to Aug. 5, while the one-week camp runs Aug. 1-5. The program focuses on providing a fun and enriching music education, organizers said. LIGHTING A SPARK: The Los Angeles Sparks, in conjuction with the Basketball Academy, are holding a girls basketball camp July 18-22 at the Drayson Center. Open to girls ages 6 to 17, campers will get instruction based on their age and skill level. Each camper will receive a Sparks T-shirt, headband and basketball, along with a ticket to a Sparks game, and discounted tickets for family members. Cost is $245 for the week-long camp.
