Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is July 20. Here are a few things going on in and around your community.

STILL HOT: Not much is changing in the National Weather Service forecast today. We don't have this thing on a copy/paste button. Today's forecast is calling for sunny skies and a high around 98 degrees. Overnight, expect a low around 62 degrees, with winds picking up.

PLANNING MEETING: The Loma Linda Planning Commission will have a regular meeting at 7 tonight in City Council Chambers. The commission will discuss the division of a planned business center proposed for 25701 Barton Road, as well as the update of the city's municipal code.

BUILDING BLOCKS: The Drayson Center is giving children a chance to learn building skills using Lego blocks with a pair of day camps Aug. 1-4. From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a junior vehicle engineering class, and from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be a standard vehicle engineering class offered. Cost for each is $125 per child. Deadline to register is July 25. For information, or to register, call (909) 558-4275.

SWIM AND A MOVIE: The city of Colton's Community Services department will have its second of three "Dive-In Movie" nights from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Gonzales Community Center pool, 670 Colton Ave. The center will screen "Shark Tale" while guests will be able to swim and float in the pool. Cost is $2 for each person entering the pool area. For information, call (909) 370-6153.

SECOND (AND THIRD) CHANCES: Were you disappointed you weren't able to make the Inland Empire Food Truck Fest last month in Ontario? Well, not to worry. Organizers have heard your cries for more meals on wheels. The city of Riverside is planning its own event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 3 in thge city's downtown area at Third and Market. Tickets will go on sale July 25, and will be $8 in advance and $10 at the door for general admission. A limited amount of VIP tickets will be available for $25 and include early admission, a gift bag and an air-conditioned seating area. Can't make it then? Well, then Citizens Business Bank Arena is expanding the offerings for the IE Food Truck Fest's second event, which will be Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will expand to include local breweries. There will also be demonstrations from members of the Ontario Reign. Ticket prices are the same as the Riverside event, and tickets will go on sale Aug. 13.
