Five Things You Need to Know Today

Today is July 27. Here are a few things going on in and around your community.

PRETTY CALM: Today should be a fairly calm day in the scheme of things weather wise. The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies and a high around 92 degrees for the area. The winds could pick up overnight, and our temperature should lower to around 64 degrees.

JOB FAIR: National Career Fairs will be having a job fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario. More than 25 potential employers and schools will be recruiting at the event. Registration for the event is free for job seekers, and is available online. Job seekers should bring copies of their resume and dress in a professional manner. The Doubletree Hotel is at 222 N. Vineyard Ave., near Ontario International Airport.

FISHERMEN CAST OFF: The Deep Creek Fly Fishers, a Redlands-based group, will be having its monthly meeting at 7 tonight at Izaak Walton Clubhouse, 2710 Dexter Drive, inside Fairmont Park in Riverside. The guest speaker will be Carol Katz, the Southwest Regional Coordinator for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, a group that helps VA patients get out and enjoy fishing. Members of the group will meet for dinner on your own at 5:30 p.m. at Art's Bar and Grill, 3357 University Ave., Riverside. A parking permit is required for vehicles at Fairmount Park.

PEST PROBLEM: The California Department of Food and Agriculture's Plant Health and Pest Prevention Services Division will be having an open house meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at the A.K. Smiley Public Library, 125 W. Vine St., Redlands. The meeting will be giving advance notice about the planned eradication of the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The meeting is open to the public. 

SCHOOL'S COMING: Today is registration day for the 2011-12 school year at Redlands Adventist Academy. Entrance fees and first month registration payments are due by today for the coming school year. Also, Loma Linda Academy has two used uniform sales scheduled before the new school year begins. They will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 and 15 in the sewing room on the east side of the high school gym. The school has also started selling scrip for the coming year in the elementary school office and the business office.
