Some of the people we love and care for at Loma Linda University Medical Center recently marked important milestones.

Mrs. Paula Pellecer, a client at the Adult Day Health Services on East Campus, celebrated her 102nd birthday on Feb. 2 with a cake and well wishes from the other clients and staff the center. The celebrant, who originally came from Guatemala, was very gracious and shared many stories with her guests.

After 51 years of dedicated service to Loma Linda University and Medical Center, safety officer Don Bender has retired. A reception was held recently at the Wong Kerlee Conference Center, where friends and family offered toasts and cheers.

We are offering our own congratulations and well wishes for Mr. Bender and Mrs. Pellecer for reaching these important milestones.

Despite it being Super Bowl Sunday, more than 10,000 people turned out to get an up-close-and-personal look at the new Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta at a grand opening event held on Feb. 6. The number of attendees was about 8,000 more than expected!

The center was expected to start accepting patients next month.

Some of the areas that will be closed to the general public once the facility is operational were open for tours, including the Hybrid Operating Room. Technicians gave demonstrations of the $2 million Artis Zeego by Siemens, a high-tech piece of equipment that allows surgeons to better perform complicated surgical procedures.

Also popular were the “crooked houses,” a play area for children in the waiting room of the maternity unit, and the large private patients rooms in the Critical Care Unit that are bathed in natural light.

Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta will bring much-needed services to the area, including advanced cardiology, radiation oncology, diagnostics, full-service laboratory, family birthing center, well-baby nursery, pain management, wound and hyperbaric medicine, full-service emergency department, urgent care clinic, women’s specific diagnostics; as well as support a variety of surgical needs including orthopedics, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and more.
