Loma Linda Makes it Through Latest Storm

Nearly a half an inch of rain drenched the area.

It rained. And a few of times, it poured on Loma Linda.

From 5:30 p.m. Saturday to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the area got just under a half inch of rain, according to the nearest rain gauge in Riverside.

There were no rain-related incidents reported. Many residents whose homes are set on hills laid out large tarps on slopes.

City officials said were prepared, declaring a level one alert, which requires that designated officials gather to assess the situation as needed. And each one was to be on call after hours.

“We’re making sure that the sand bags are out and assessing the weather every hour,” said Konrad Bolowich, director of Information Systems for Loma Linda.

K Rails were placed at strategic locations, including at the top of Almond Court, Bolowich said.

By Sunday, forecasters with the National Weather Service office officials said the city could expect to warm up in the next few days. The forecast includes patchy frost before 10 a.m. The sun will come out and the high near 59 degrees. Night will bring partly cloudy skies with a low around 40 degrees.

The next chance for rain comes Friday, said Don Whitlow, weather service meteorologist.

The coming system is moving slowly and “pretty far away.” Things can always change, he said.
