Occupy Redlands to Mark First Birthday with Festival of Ideas in Ed Hales Park

Members of Occupy Redlands plan to celebrate their group's one-year birthday on Sunday Oct. 14 with a Festival of Ideas in Ed Hales Park.

"Various local activist groups and charities will be in attendance to discuss their causes with the public," Occupy Redlands spokesman Keith Jackson said in a statement.

The event is scheduled 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday Oct. 14 in downtown Redlands. Organizations expected to participate include:

Citizens Action for Peace

Redlands Area Democratic Club

Common Cause

Step by Step

Redlands Good Neighbor Coalition

Redlands Sustainability Network

Micah House

Family Services Association

Music Changing Lives

"The public is invited to attend and get a chance to have a dialog with these various groups," Jackson said. "Snacks will be served."

The following candidates for city, county, state and federal office have been invited:

California State Senate - Melissa O'Donnell and Bill Emmerson

California State Assembly - Mike Morrell and Russ Warner

Redlands City Council - Pete Aguilar, Mike Layne, Mike Saifie, Lane Schneider, Don Wallace and Pat Gilbreath

County Supervisor - James Ramos and Neil Derry

U.S. House of Representatives – Gary Miller and Bob Dutton

"The public is encouraged to engage with the candidates so that they can make informed choices this November at the ballot box," Jackson said.

Occupy Redlands is billed as "a group of citizens dedicated to improving the quality of life in our local community, the Inland Empire, America, and the World."
