Joelene Faith Aritonang came into the world at 1:49 a.m. Wednesday at Redlands Community Hospital, and she became the first newborn of 12/12/12 in Redlands, according to doctors and staff.
Her mother Friska and her father Daud, residents of Mentone, beamed with pride Wednesday afternoon and said Joelene's timing was a sign of good fortune.
"It's a good number for her because she was supposed to be born on the 30th this month," Friska said as she cradled Joelene.
As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, three babies had been born on Dec. 12, 2012, at the only hospital in Redlands, a Redlands Community spokeswoman said.
At least one other mom-to-be was in labor and expecting to give birth later Wednesday, Nikyah Pfeiffer-Thomas said.
Each baby born at Redlands Community Hospital was celebrated by the hospital's staff, and each lucky family was presented with a gift basket to commemorate the special occasion, Pfeiffer-Thomas said.
Redlands Community Hospital is a not-for-profit, stand-alone hospital, located at 350 Terracina Blvd. in Redlands, Calif.
