Redlands Teen Going to Grammy Camp

Phillip Lucero is joining other talented high school students from around the United States this July at Grammy Camp in Los Angeles.

Phillip Lucero of Redlands is heading to Grammy Camp in Los Angeles for songwriting.

More than 130 high school students from across the country were chosen to take part in Grammy Camps in Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York City.

Lucero will participate in the Los Angeles camp, which will be held at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and other venues in the city. The students will study all aspects of commercial music while working with industry professionals. There are six different tracks - engineering for audio and video, concert production, electronic music production, music journalism, songwriting, and performance in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, vocal, or winds and strings - and at the end of the camp, participants will record CDs, hold performances, or put together media projects.

"Grammy Camp is one of our most immersive programs in terms of exposing young people to what it's like to have an actual working career in the music business, and the opportunity to receive instruction directly from Grammy-winning artists and industry professionals instills knowledge, confidence and lasting lessons in students," said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation, in a statement.

Students interested in attending Grammy Camp next year can apply here. The deadline is March 31, 2013.
