West to southwest winds are expected to increase Thursday evening with gusts to 50 mph in wind-prone areas, growing stronger by Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected to increase overnight Thursday into Friday in wind-prone mountain and desert areas, and there's a 30 percent chance of rain Friday night for Redlands and Loma Linda, according to the National Weather Service.

"A low pressure trough will deepen over the West coast through Friday," the Weather Service advised Thursday. "This synoptic pattern will increase the pressure gradients... strengthening the wind over the mountains and deserts.

"West and southwest winds will increase to 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph today with possible gusts to 70 mph Friday afternoon in some of the wind prone areas. This will make driving difficult for high profile vehicles. Winds will decrease in intensity Saturday morning."
