A 22-month-old girl was in critical condition Thursday at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital with suspected abuse injuries including coma symptoms, and her teen parents were arrested, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies in Big Bear were alerted to the child's injuries before 9 a.m. Tuesday July 9 and responded to Bear Valley Hospital, sheriff's personnel said in a statement distributed Thursday July 11.

The little girl had injuries to her head and body and she was transferred to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital for further treatment, sheriff's personnel said.

"Medical examinations performed by Forensic Pediatricians at LLUCH revealed that the victim had extensive injuries suspected of being caused by abuse," sheriff's personnel said.

Detectives from the Crimes Against Children Detail were assigned to investigate, and the alleged victim's parents, Aaron Degrise, 18, and a 17-year-old girl, were arrested, sheriff's personnel said.

Degrise was booked at the Central Detention Center on suspicion of torture and assault on a child causing coma. His bail was set at $500,000.

The girl's mother was booked at San Bernardino Juvenile Hall on suspicion fo willfully causing or permitting a child to be injured. She was being held with no bail, sheriff's personnel said.

The girl was listed critical condition as of noon Thursday. She was "expected to recover from her injuries," sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller told Redlands-Loma Linda Patch.
