UPDATE: High School Teacher, 28, Accused of Having Sex and Baby with Student, 16

ALLEGED TEACHER SEX VIDEO UPDATE: Redlands School District Issues Statement

A 28-year-old Redlands high school teacher was arrested Monday and accused of having sex and a baby with a 16-year-old student, a police spokesman said Tuesday July 2.

Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, a teacher at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, was an advisor to the student when he was 16, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said. The boy is now 17. His name was not released.

"The sexual relationship began last summer and continued for nearly a year," Baker said. "The victim's mother reported the relationship to school officials who called Redlands Police on Monday.

"Whitehurst gave birth to a child June 18," Baker said. "Investigators say the child was fathered by the teen."

Whitehurst was questioned and arrested at her home in Redlands about 8:45 p.m. Monday July 1, Baker said.

She was booked on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and released after posting $25,000 bail, according to Baker.

Detectives were continuing to investigate, Baker said. Anyone with more info was urged to call Detective Natasha Crawford at (909) 798-7623 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681. Anonymous tipsters can text 274637 using the keyword "REDTIP."
