Loma Linda Charity Brings its Unique Mission Back Home

After four years in Riverside, The Unforgettables Foundation moves its offices to the more centrally located Redlands.

The Unforgettables Foundation has often been described one of the more unique charitable missions.

The foundation helps needy families pay for the sudden cost of a child’s funeral or memorial service.

On Thursday, after four years in Riverside, the foundation celebrated the return of their base of operations to Redlands. The new office is in the Gateway Plaza, 345 W. Pearl St., Suite 230.

“I had always wanted to move us back to Redlands,” said Tim Evans, founder of the Unforgettables. “That’s what we decided to do. The last four years we had a part-time office, then in Riverside was a full-time office.”

Loma Linda is the original birthplace of the foundation. Evans is a former chaplain at Loma Linda University Medical Center and has said he was touched by the plight of some families who lost children.

In 1999, Evans started the foundation with help from educators, medical professionals, social workers and morticians.

Families from San Bernardino and Riverside counties are either referred or sometimes contact the foundation directly. The organization is completely self-sufficient and relies entirely on donations.

The 1,500-square-foot office is essential for planning the different fundraisers that keep the organization running.

“Redlands is a nice in between place,” Evans said. “We cemented ‘this location’ three weeks ago. We’ve been looking for about six months.”

Volunteers with the foundation held a grand opening at the new office May 26.

Members of the Loma Linda, Redlands and Highland chamber of commerce and several councilmembers attended, including Loma Linda Mayor pro tem Ovidiu Popescu and Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar.

And members from all three represented cities cut the ribbon.

“We’re just hoping this will give a little better presence in San Bernardino,” Evans said.
