The honor topped the topped a busy week that included visits from the Nuclear Cowboyz and NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr..

Wonderful news for Loma Linda University Medical Center, which was ranked No. 1 in the Inland Empire by the U.S. News & World Report’s first-ever Best Hospitals metro area rankings.

The hospital was ranked first among the 41 hospitals in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Seven of the hospital’s specialties were rated “high performing.” Those specialties are cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gynecology, kidney disorders, pulmonology, and urology.

“The ranking recognizes the hard work and exceptional skill of our doctors and staff, as well as out commitment to our mission of continuing the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ,” LLUMC CEO Ruthita Fike said.

“All of these hospitals provide first-rate care for the majority of patients, even those with serious conditions or who need demanding procedures,” said Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “The new Best Hospitals metro ranking can tell you which hospitals are worth considering for most medical problems if you live in or near a major metro area.”

We join in congratulating the LLUMC family for this recognition and thanking the community for its support through the years.

We have had some wonderful visits to the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital from some fun and generous personalities.

Three riders from the Nuclear Cowboyz, a freestyle motocross touring production, paid a surprise visit to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on March 24.

Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Derek Guetter and Brody Wilson took time away from their current national tour to sign autographs, play video games and talk to the young patients at Children’s Hospital in various playrooms within the hospital. The riders also visited children who were unable to leave their patient rooms.

“It’s amazing to hear about all the great things that are happening at this hospital,” said Brody Wilson, a 2010 X-Games competitor.

That same day, NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. stopped by for a surprise visit and generously presented a check for $5,000 on behalf of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation.

Truex, driver of car number 56, spent time with patients in various activity rooms signing autographs. The Toyota-sponsored driver took the time to visit several kids at their bedside who were not able to leave their rooms, talking to them about anything from movies, to music and racing.

These guests certainly brought cheer to many kids at the Children’s Hospital.

A warm welcome to three physicians who recently joined the Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Dr. Ara Chrissian joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Lee M. Zuckerman joins the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Department as an orthopedic oncology and trauma orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Jane E. Lewis joins the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine.

We feel blessed to have these accomplished medical professionals on board who are bringing their skill and dedication to benefit our patients and community.
