New Features to Help Healing on Hospital Campuses

A new water feature is dedicated at the East Campus, while children will have a new portable fun station to play with.

Patients and guests at Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus now have a new place to relax and heal following the dedication Friday of a new water feature on campus.

Loma Linda University PossAbilities and LLUMC East Campus were chosen recently to receive a professionally installed water feature by the Ponditat for Humanity organization, sponsored by the International Professional Pond Companies Association (www.ippca.com) in Georgia. The Pond Digger (www.theponddigger.com) of Yucaipa designed the water feature, valued at $10,000, located between the Zapara Pavilion and Ambulatory Services building.

“This place brings relief, comfort, and tranquility,” said Fermin Camarena, 57, of San Juan Capistrano, a PossAbilities member who is recovering from a stroke.

Eric Triplett, owner of The Pond Digger, said the new water feature goes along well with PossAbilities’ and LLUMC East Campus’ use of a healing environment to enhance patient care.

Kids at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital got another “Fun Center” to ease the time they spend at the hospital, thanks to a wonderful donation from Colgate-Palmolive, Stater Bros. Markets and Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Representatives from the organization were at the hospital Friday to deliver a new Fun Center mobile entertainment unit, featuring a Nintendo Wii, DVD player and a Sharp AQUOS LCD TV, for the young patients to enjoy.

The Fun Centers have been popular items at Children’s Hospital. The mobile Fun Centers roll right up to the patients’ bed or anywhere in the hospital, making it a great diversion for young patients during sometimes stressful times. They can play while waiting for outpatient clinic visits, after visiting hours are over, or while anticipating surgery.
