If your looking for a healthy snack, hummus might hit the spot.

Today’s featured Loma Linda Farmer’s Market item is: Hummus.

Mom’s Specialty, in Orange, makes the rounds to many farmer’s markets, Loma Linda included. It features a number of Mediterranian items, including a delicious artichoke hummus which salesman Juan Aguilar was handing out samples of last Sunday,

“I eat it with the taboule salad or I put it in a sandwich,” Aguilar said.

They also sell pita bread. Every item is $4 or three items for $10.

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzos or ceci (pronounce chee-chee) beans, are an ancient crop that has been grown in the Middle East, India and parts of Africa for more than 7,000 years.

Excellent source of protein. Contains complex carbohydrates and fiber. Good source of vitamin B6, C and zinc.
