CSUSB's CUIDAR Project offers free summer parenting classes to the community

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State San Bernardino’s Institute of Child Development and Family Relations’ Project CUIDAR will offer free parent education classes over the summer to residents of the East Valley Region of San Bernardino County. The 12-session course is primarily geared toward parents or caregivers of young children up to 5 years old.

The classes, which will be all in English, will be held in the city of San Bernardino at these locations:

  • On Mondays and Wednesdays, from July 8 to Aug. 14, from 5-7:30 p.m. at Priscilla's Helping Hands Project R.E.A.C.H., 1314 East Date St., San Bernardino.
  • On Mondays, from July 15 to Oct. 7, at the EMQ Families First IYRT Center, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., 325 W. Hospitality Lane, Ste. 103, San Bernardino.
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Aug. 6 to Sept. 12, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the CSUSB Infant/Toddler Lab School, 5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino.
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from July 16 to Aug. 22, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Heartland Players Theatre Company, 33994 Avenue E, Yucaipa.
Sponsored by San Bernardino County’s First 5 Early Intervention Project, CUIDAR’s parenting classes are based on the most current research on positive child guidance, child development, attachment and neurodevelopment. Parents will learn effective positive child guidance strategies that will also support their children’s long-term development.

Program officials said that parents may join a session up until the second week of class.

A light meal will be offered to parents and children. Free childcare is available to caregivers while attending classes in the form of a child enrichment group for ages 3-5, and structured childcare for ages 6-12. The child enrichment groupprovides developmentally appropriate activities for children by trained CSUSB students.

Space is limited and parents must call the Project CUIDAR main office at (909) 537-5945. Also, more classes will be scheduled during the summer. Please contact Project CUIDAR’s main office for more information.
