Military Times Magazine ranks CSUSB in its top 25 ‘Best for Vets business schools’

San Bernardino, Calif. -- Cal State San Bernardino’s College of Business and Public Administration’s M.B.A. program has been named a “Best for Vets” by Military Times Magazine for the second year in a row.

The magazine published its “Best for Vets: Business Schools 2014” ranking CSUSB’s master of business administration program No. 22 out of 140 respondents. The ranking was based on the university’s efforts to assist veterans, active-duty service members and their families in pursuing a college education.

Among four-year universities, CSUSB as a whole earned its first “Best for Vets Colleges” designation in 2010 and again this past December.

“We are so proud that our M.B.A. program has been named “Best for Vets” by Military Times Magazine,” said Lawrence Rose, dean of CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration. “It is indeed a great honor to receive this designation, especially after being ranked in the top 20 business schools by CEO Magazine’s International Business Forum. It speaks volumes of the support services that not just our College provides, but the overall university as well.”

“The “Best for Vets” rating of our M.B.A. program by Military Times Magazine reiterates our commitment to veterans and active military personnel in pursuing their M.B.A.s,” said Vipin Gupta, the college’s associate dean and M.B.A. director. “Our support staff and faculty know precisely how to accommodate the special needs of these students.”

Of the 140 colleges and universities that responded to the survey, only those who indicated they offered an M.B.A. program were considered.

Schools were evaluated in five categories: university culture; student support; academic outcomes and quality; academic policies; and cost and financial aid. University culture and student support counted the most, and financial aid counted the least, according to the Military Times staff.

“To create the rankings we scored schools’ survey responses to both the business schools survey and parts of the [broader] colleges and universities survey based on what veterans have told us is important to them,” said George Altman, staff writer for Military Times.

In addition, Cal State San Bernardino was recently recognized as a top military-friendly university by G.I. Jobs Magazine for the fourth year in a row.

Military Advanced Education magazine also presented CSUSB with the same “military-friendly university” honor for the second consecutive year. The university was listed in December’s MAE’s 2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities.

“Cal State San Bernardino is committed to assisting active-duty service members and veterans pursue college degrees and to help them transition to a university environment and achieve their academic and personal development goals,” said Brian Haynes, CSUSB’s vice president for Student Affairs.

As a result, the CSUSB Veterans Success Center opened its doors in May 2012, with the mission of providing support services focused on the special needs and requirements of today’s military veterans, service members and dependents.

The center provides guidance, mentorship and referral specific to student veterans’ needs. It offers tutors, new student orientation sessions and a monthly lecture series focused on topics relevant to military personnel, active or retired.

Other services the VSC offers include community training on veteran’s issues, a weekly mental health support group and a monthly newsletter.

CSUSB is also an official chapter of the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society.
