Why Become Vegetarian?

People are motivated to become vegetarian because of the following reasons: health, spirituality and religion, environmental perspective, ethics and animal cruelty concerns.

Generally, people may have a lack of understanding and technical skills for preparing meals, a fear of dietary inadequacy, familial and social ties to food, cultural practices, religious traditions, and financial/economical barriers to vegetarian lifestyle. A fear of dietary inadequacy is a MAJOR barrier towards vegetarianism. People dont feel like they are eating a meal without actually having meat on their plate. Nutrients of concern for the vegetarian (Lacto-ovo vegetarians and vegans) include vitamin B12, iron, zinc, protein, calcium, vitamin D, and protein. Protein quantity, quality and complementation are to be considered.

I made the common mistake of not eating meat cold turkey without proper planning first. And had fequent "relapses" the past two weeks. The key to successful is preparation first. Then action. Preparation involves finding the time, funds and developing recipes that fit your pallate and budget. As a busy student, I need quick meals and I dont have time or energy to cut up veggies all day. Now that i know what I do. I have to determine what works best for me.
