Five Things You Need To Know For The Weekend

Go to brunch, see a play and enjoy the cooler weather this weekend in Loma Linda and the area.

HEAT WAVE FIZZLES: The weekend weather in Loma Linda will be much cooler, as the mini heat wave will disappear behind the cloud cover.

Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 78 and low of 52. On Sunday, temperature highs will drop to 69 and a low of 50. Monday, expect much of the same with a miniscule chance of rain (10 percent).

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: Who said people don’t read anymore? Comic book shops, the ones that do it right – like Comic Quest in Redlands, are thriving.

On Saturday, the shop is one of many nationwide that will be a part of Free Comic Book Day, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. – or whenever they run out of freebies. You can procure a free comic book from several titles, including Green Lantern, The Amazing Spider-Man, Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal, Darkwing Duck and Archie Comics.

Companies put out these shorter comic book teasers in hopes of both promoting new titles and giving longstanding titles a little extra boost.

MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY: If you want a weekend breakfast that features omlettes that hang over the side of your plate and a side of bacon that will feed a family of four, stop by the Family Homestyle Café.

Located at 24735 Redlands Blvd.,  Suite G, Loma Linda. On the weekends, the restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

And the best four words any breakfast fan can hear? Breakfast served all day. For information, call 909-478-9996.

WATCH YOUR SPEED: to raise the speed limit from 35 to 40 mph on Mountain View Avenue, between Van Leuven Street and Barton Road.

The Loma Linda City Council will address the issue at its next Tuesday meeting.

Remember, it hasn’t officially changed yet, so mind your speed on that stretch of road. Who wants to ruin a perfectly good weekend with a speeding ticket?

ATTEND A PLAY: The Loma Linda University School of Religion’s Humanities Program is hosting the play, “Art That Heals: Damien” at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The performance features Dr. Kenneth Wright. The performance is being held at the Loma Linda University Church, 11125 Campus Street, Loma Linda. For information, call 909-558-4570.
