Five Things You Need To Know Today

Today is May 22. Here are a few things you might want to know.

DRIZZLE THREAT: Winter-like weather is still trying to leave its mark, but it looks we’ll still get some warmth. National Weather Service officials predict a chance of drizzle and patchy fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, it should be partly sunny with a high near 74 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 20 miles per hour. Tonight forecasters expect a 20 percent chance of rain and patchy fog after 11 p.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 56 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 25 miles per hour.

INACURRATE PREDICTION: I’m not sure if the rapture happened. I’m sort of sure it did not because I’m still here and still have work to do. That’s a bit worrisome. That reminds me, for those of you who read yesterday’s Five Things column, I was just kidding about the "Macarena" comment.

CANCER FIGHT: Colton’s Relay for Life walk comes to a close this morning. Traditionally, the event holds some type of closing ceremony and a final walk around its course. I haven’t checked to see what the organizers are doing this morning, but if you’re in the area of Colton High School early in the morning, stop on by, 777 West Valley Blvd.

HIGH TECH: Your home or business on fire? There’s an App for that. No really, there is. I was browsing through the Redlands Fire Department Facebook page and came across information about the A2App.com Firefighter Calculator that launched this year. The app is designed to help firefighters “quickly and accurately calculate flow rates for both normal situations, as well as more complex foam
and multi-line attack situations,” according to its creators.

FRESH PRODUCE: Time for the Loma Linda Farmers Market. You know how I tend to gravitate to some places in the city. The farmers market is one of them. I dropped my weekly market preview because my camera started to get a bit shaky. I may try and use another camera. But through the feature, I came to know some of the vendors. I’m really rooting for them. I also appreciate that the city’s Chamber of Commerce offers something like that to the city. Those take a lot of work to organize folks. They’re glad to do it but, believe me, they do not have a huge staff. It would be great if the city supported the market. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon. They set up on Barton Frontage Road at the Intersection of Barton Road and Loma Linda Drive.
