Get Out: Five Ideas for Your Weekend

Shake and bake this weekend.

With multiple plays, fireworks set to powerful symphony music and the chance to put the pedal to the metal in a real NASCAR racecar, this weekend delivers epic drama.

Our goal is to make the Get Out planner as reliable as possible, but keep in mind, some events change at the last minute. We advise calling ahead just in case.

When/Where: 8:15 p.m. Friday at the Redlands Bowl, 25 Grant St., Redlands

Why Go: This is the final concert of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival. The Redlands Symphony will perform “Finale Visions,” conducted by Frank Paul Fetta and featuring virtuoso violinist Roberto Cani. Cani will perform “Scottish Fantasy” by Max Bruch. There will also be a special fireworks show during the finale.

When/Where: 8:30 p.m. Friday at Prospect Park, Cajon Street and East Highlands Avenue, Redlands

Why Go: Take a trip back in time to a sweet and nostalgic musical era. The show is part of the Redlands Theatre Festival, which features a wide variety of plays, all performed under the stars. House opens at 8 p.m., shows start at 8:30 p.m. There is a complimentary tram service that begins at 6:30 p.m. and picks up near the entrance and street parking on Cajon Street.

Pricing: $18 general admission, $13 each groups of twenty or more

When/Where: Saturday and Sunday at Auto Club Speedway, 9300 Cherry Ave., Fontana

Why Go: This is a little spendy, but it could truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Get behind the wheel of a 600 horsepower NASCAR race car and race on the track at speeds of up to 160 mph. Experiences range from the "Rookie Experience" with eight laps around the track to the "Racing Experience" featuring 50 laps of white-knuckled, heart pounding speed. This is track is a two-mile, tri-shaped oval known for its wide, sweeping turns.

When/Where: 1 p.m. Saturday at the Redlands Barnes & Noble, 27460 Lugonia Ave., Redlands

Why Go: Are you a writer or do you want to be one? This "schmooze" exists to encourage and inform writers and writers-to-be. Please RSVP to Sanayeh@aol.com. Schedules may change, so please call the store to confirm. Schmoozes are hosted by Marilyn Donahue, author of 31 books, editor and owner of Writing Unlimited Editorial Services, Inland Area Writing Project instructor and conference speaker. She recently signed contracts for four new books.

When/Where: 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Prospect Park, Cajon Street and East Highlands Avenue, Redlands

Why Go: Also part of the Redlands Theatre Festival, this show delivers big laughs. When nuns need funds to pay for funeral costs, they take over the school auditorium and raise money by showcasing their hysterical hidden singing, tap dancing and showmanship skills.The award-winning show also features an audience quiz and some fun surprises.

Pricing: $18 general admission, $13 each groups of twenty or more

There will also be , during the "schmooze," featuring Catherine Salmon, author of "The Secret Power of Middle Children."
