Get Out: Five Ideas For Your Weekend

You have a rendezvous to get to this weekend.

This weekend features sparkly cars, musical legends, mysteries to be solved, authors-to-be and mini-golf in a parking space?

Our goal is to make the Get Out planner as reliable as possible, but keep in mind, some events change at the last minute. We advise calling ahead just in case.

When/Where: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Friday at the Blood Orange Infoshop, 3643 University Ave., Riverside

Why Go: Park(ing) Day is an annual event in which citizens transform metered parking spaces and parking lots into temporary city "parks" and usable green spaces. In downtown Riverside, at the Blood Orange Infoshop, you can come hang out in the "park" and play a little miniature golf too.

When/Where: 6:30-10 p.m. this Friday and next Friday at The Historic Fox Theater, 123 Cajon St., Redlands

Why Go: With the passing of prohibition and organized crime on the rise, D'Angelo's Ice Cream parlor and swanky speakeasy, has been jumping. Danny D'Angelo, Chicago's most notorious gangster, has received an inside tip that someone is trying to muscle in on his territory. Could it be the choreographer, one of the chorus girls, or a fellow mobster? Play detective and help find out who dunnit.

When/Where: This Friday through Sunday over 35 blocks of downtown San Bernadino

Why Go: This four-day event features classic cars, contests, food and vendor booths, family-friendly games and music. On Friday, cast members from the movie "American Graffiti" will be meeting the public. Why Go: Are you a writer or do you want to be one? This "schmooze" exists to encourage and inform writers and writers-to-be. Please RSVP to Sanayeh@aol.com. Schedules may change, so please call the store to confirm. Schmoozes are hosted by Marilyn Donahue, author of 31 books, editor and owner of Writing Unlimited Editorial Services, Inland Area Writing Project instructor and conference speaker. She recently signed contracts for four new books.

Why Go: Rock legend Chuck Berry performs live. Called "The Father of Rock and Roll," his talent is true. This ticketed concert is part of the Chubby Checker and Barenaked Ladies are also on deck to perform over the next couple of days.
