Kool Kactus Fans Help Restaurant Earn Readers' Choice Win

The small Loma Linda restaurant gets a boost from its Facebook followers in the weekly polling for the area's best taco.

It's a small, blink-and-you'll-miss-it type of place.

And a lot of times, those are the places you're going to find the best food.

So it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that the has a lot of fans. Enough to propel it to the top of the Redlands-Loma Linda Patch Readers' Choice Poll for Best Taco.

The Loma Linda eatery (and catering company) only has a handful of tables, but it makes up for it with creations that will satisfy meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. Choices include the typical chicken, shredded beef and fish tacos, but also include healthier items such as squash, crispy tofu and spinich-mushroom. The restaurant Dr. Ernie Medina to create a special burrito that is stuffed with black beans, tofu and brown rice.

And if you can't make it to their restaurant, there's a good chance you can meet up with their catering truck, which heads out different times during the week to local businesses, including ESRI and Beaver Medical Group. You can keep up with their comings and goings on their Facebook page.

As for the results, the Kool Kactus received 53 percent of the 65 votes, with late challenges coming from (15 percent) and (9 percent).

This was a fun topic, and we'll probably revisit the Mexican food idea again in the future (burritos, chili verde and chips and salsa come to mind as far as ideas).

But for the next couple of weeks, we're going to get ready for Mother's Day. So start getting your thinking caps on in honor of Mom. Next week will be florists, with the week after focusing on places to take her to celebrate.
