Memorial Day Events Around the Region Will Honor Those Who Served

Events honoring our veterans are scheduled throughout San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles counties will Several events are scheduled to honor those who gave their lives for our country

In honor of Memorial Day, there are several special events planned across the Inland Empire.

In Redlands, a traditional event will begin at 9 a.m. during the annual Memorial Day service at Hillside Memorial Park. 1540 Alessandro Road, Redlands.

The ninth annual Memorial Day Tribute in Rialto will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. World War II veterans who live in Rialto are encouraged to call the city clerk’s office for a special honor to be given at the event. Rialto Park Cemetery, 200 N. Willow, Rialto. 909-820-2519.

At the Edward-Dean Museum & Gardens, the Memorial Day Living History Legacy Camps Weekend will feature arts, crafts, clothing, equipment and more that showcase life in camps from 1500 to 1899. On Monday, there will be a special remembrance for Memorial Day, and anyone who has lost a family member may submit their name for recognition. Admission is $5 per car for the outdoor event; access to the museum is extra. Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 9401 Oak Glen Road, Cherry Valley. 951-845-2626.

A joint ceremony between the cities of Calimesa and Yucaipa will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Local residents who have died during active duty will have their names read, and a C-117 from March Air Reserve Base will do a flyover. Veteran Bill Brown will speak and local groups will provide music. 11251 Desert Lawn Dr., Calimesa.

At 11 a.m. Monday, the city of Beaumont will inscribe 16 names on the Beaumont Veteran’s Memorial Wall, which honored deceased military personnel who resided in Beaumont or Cherry Valley while on active duty. 550 E. Sixth St., Beaumont. 951-769-8520.

American Legion Post 742 and Auxiliary Unit 742 will present a Memorial Day service at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Sunnyslope Cemetery. Korean War veteran Dennis Mitch Salgado will speak, and blue star banners will be given to families of current service members. 1125 Rimpau Ave., Corona. 951-736-6166

The Palm Springs Air Museum will host its annual Memorial Day Flower Drop on Monday. Some 3,000 red, white and blue carnations will be dropped from a B-25 Mitchell at 1 p.m.But arrive earlier as there will be activities for the children and the Heatwave Jazz Band will perform. Attendees may also take home a flower as a memento.

The 122nd Annual Memorial Day Program will be at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Keynote speaker will be Maj. General John T. Crowe. Actor David James Elliott of "JAG" is also scheduled to be in attendance. The program starts at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30.

For military members:

All military personnel, active or retired, are given free admission to the Queen Mary from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Admission includes a self-guided tour and the Ghosts and Legends Show, 1126 Queen’s Highway, Long Beach. 877-342-0736
