Redlands Business Preparing to Make the Jump to Loma Linda

Council votes to expand their Auto Plaza to help Nader's Auto Sales make the move.

Loma Linda may soon become home for Nader’s Auto Sales, currently in Redlands.

Nader’s, a new and used auto dealership, is planning on moving further down Redlands Boulevard out of the City of Redlands and into a facility near Quaid Harley Davidson in Loma Linda.

Redlands loss will be will be Loma Linda’s financial gain, as the city would collect precious sales tax from the auto business. On Tuesday night, Loma Linda’s City Council approved expanding their Auto Plaza, to accommodate the business.

The auto plaza, located between Redlands and Interstate 10 near South Richardson Street, will be expanded to 45 acres. The proposed dealership would sit on five acres and abut the Harley dealership on the south.

Spreen Honda, Hyundai Inland Empire and Quaid Harley Davidson, are already located at the center and contribute greatly to the city’s financial well-being, city officials said.

Adding another established dealership could help strengthen the city’s finances, city officials said.

Some of the council members expressed minor concerns.

“There are used auto dealers that look good and there are used auto dealers that don’t look,” said councilman Ron Daily. “I assume that we’ve got some influence through building codes to ensure that this is going to be a quality place at least in terms of aesthetic appearance.”

“We have influence via building codes and code enforcement,” said Konrad Bolowich, director of information systems with Loma Linda. “Nader’s is an established auto sales business. This is a quality operation.”

Last month, Nader’s sold 47 vehicles, said Mayor Rhodes Rigsby.

“This is not a small time operation,” he said.

If all goes according to plan, the business will move into an empty medical supply office, officials said.
