UPDATE: Redlands Motorcyclist Dies in Lane-Splitting Crash, More Details Released

Update 3:24 p.m. More details of the death of a Redlands motorcyclist who was splitting lanes Friday on the 215 Freeway in the Grand Terrace area were released Monday afternoon by the California Highway Patrol.

About 10:50 a.m. May 31, Vance Michael Plumb, 22, was riding a 2009 Buell 1125R south on the 215, north of Barton Road, at unknown speed, according to coroner's and CHP accounts.

For reasons still under investigation, the rider lost control and struck the rear corners of a Nissan Maxima and an International AL 4300 truck as he split traffic lanes, according to the CHP.

The rider came off his motorcycle and he was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency medical personnel, according to the CHP. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet.

The drivers of the Nissan and the International truck were not injured.

 A Redlands man died in a motorcycle crash Friday on the 215 Freeway in the Grand Terrace area west of Loma Linda, according to the San Bernardino County coroner.

The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. May 31 on the southbound 215, coroner's personnel said in a statement.

A motorcyclist collided with two vehicles and emergency medical service first responders pronounced the man, Vance Michael Plumb, 22, deceased at the scene, coroner's personnel reported.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
