Redlands Tea Party Members Join National Protest Against IRS, Obama

Members of the Redlands Tea Party and scores of like-minded activists protested Tuesday outside Internal Revenue Service offices in San Bernardino, joining a national Tea Party effort to denounce the Obama administration and IRS targeting of conservative groups.

Carolyn Hays of Redlands said she came out to protest because "I believe in free markets, fiscal conservatism, and limited government.

"Get the IRS out of our lives," Hays said as she stood holding a sign outside the IRS offices on North D Street.

Tea Party members and conservatives said they came from Menifee, Corona, San Dimas, and across the Inland Empire to protest, in response to an email that went out nationally Monday night.

Many motorists honked to show their approval, but women in one northbound car stopped and honked repeatedly, and shouted "Y'all are racial! You're racists!"

Most protesters who heard the women laughed, and one shouted back "Your tail light is out!"

The women stopped at a red light up the street and one shouted back at the protesters "If y'all would pay your taxes you wouldn't have this problem!"

The protest was expected to go from noon to 1 p.m., members of the Redlands Tea Party said on D Street.
