UPDATE: Coroner Awaiting Dental X-Rays to Positively ID Woman Found Near Big Bear

San Bernardino County coroner's personnel said Tuesday they were waiting for dental X-rays to positively identify a deceased woman found Saturday in the Crystal Mountain area near Big Bear City and Baldwin Lake.

Search-and-rescue volunteers located the body of a female May 18 in a remote area about one mile from where a search began Thursday morning for Karen Dalman, 59, of Big Bear, according to sheriff's personnel.

Dalman and a friend had gone hiking in the Crystal Mountain area on May 14 and they became separated, according to sheriff's and coroner's personnel. The friend found his way back to his car after two days of walking and reported Dalman missing on May 16, according to the Sheriff's Department.

"An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death," coroner's personnel said May 21 in a statement. "The coroner is waiting on dental X-rays to positively identify the decedent."

A Sheriff's Department investigation was also continuing.
