VA to Honor Former POWs at Luncheon
The Loma Linda facility hopes to shine a spotlight on the many programs offered to former prisoners of war.
The Loma Linda VA will be honoring former Prisoners of War during a luncheon Sept. 15.
The event, which will begin at 11 a.m., coincides with National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
The Department of Veterans Affiars estimates there are fewer than 32,500 former Prisoners of War alive today, according to a VA news release.

Officials also hope to use the event to spotlight the different types of care and benefits former Prisoners of War are entitled to through the VA. Enacted in 1981, the Former Prisoners of War Benefit Act allows for expanded offerings for those veterans who were wartime prisoners.
Reservations are required for the luncheon.
