Learning about sustainable building does not have to mean dry reading materials.
The Frontier Project in Rancho Cucamonga brings it to life for all the Inland Empire. The project is a 14,000-square-foot demonstration building that features water-efficient gardens, and rainwater capture system, its creators wrote on their website.
Located on a one-acre site at 10435 Ashford St. in Rancho Cucamonga, project members offer monthly tours of the facility. This month’s were already held, but staffers recommend registering for April. Regular tours are held the third Wednesday of each month.
Tours can also be scheduled.
The purpose of the Frontier Project is to educate resident consumers, commercial builders and sustainable advocates about the latest methods and technologies in water, energy and site conservation, project members wrote on their website.
Through ongoing partnerships, the Frontier Project is able to offer a variety of workshops, programs and special events for teachers, students, homeowners and building professionals. The Frontier Project received a LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2010, staffers wrote.
Project members have a partnership with a number of businesses, including Bank of America, Southern California Edison, Chino Basin Water District. The nonprofit project serves cities as far as Redlands, Loma Linda and beyond.
The Frontier Project is open to the public for all members of the community to learn about environmentally sustainable products, systems, technologies and building design. Walk-ins are welcome Monday - Friday, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
