Opening day for boys baseball and girls softball in Redlands is a really big deal. Bring your camera.
This Norman Rockwell-esque event is so syrupy fun that even my friends in the media said they expect to cover it.
Speeches, opening pitches, kids running the base paths all in front of hundreds of families -- nothing like this happened in Iowa when I grew up playing little league in the 1970s.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Redlands Baseball for Youth Community Fields near Church Street and East San Bernardino Avenue. Assemblyman Mike Morrell, who represents Redlands in Sacramento, will throw out the first pitch.
Hungry? A pancake breakfast starts at 7 a.m. and ends about 9 a.m.
And for the record, RBY has the best snack bar in town.
