Somebody Go For Me!

A Redlands man on reserve duty wants somebody -- anybody -- to attend Thursday's meeting of the Tea Party Patriots in his place because he's still in "LA."

One of the few bummers about being a US Army Reservist is that, a couple times each year, I have to miss the monthly meeting of the Redlands Tea Party Patriots.

And how I wish I could attend Thursday’s meeting at the Mill Creek Cattle Co. in Mentone!

Gary Miller and Bob Dutton, the two Republicans fighting for the new 31st congressional district (you know, the one uber-lib Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar couldn’t win despite having no real opposition and a majority Democrat district) will debate.

Redlands’ assemblyman in Sacramento, Mike Morrell, will discuss a slate of recent state bills as well as efforts by Gov. Jerry Brown to raise our taxes via the
November ballot.

I would speak at the meeting if I were, well, there. I'm currently doing my annual Army Reserve duty in Fort Rucker, Ala. (I'm not making this up: The locals call the area, "LA," as in, "Lower Alabama.")

Each month, I discuss our neighborhood canvassing efforts at our monthly meeting. (And for the record, we will resume our fall neighborhood canvassing every Saturday through the election, beginning Sept. 15, after I complete my Army Reserve duty.)

Thursday's meeting is free and open to the public. The two-hour meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Mill Creek Cattle Co., 1874 Mentone Blvd. For more information, go to redlandsteaparty.com.

Usually I'd start with how teachers should be paid in line with their students grades, but for nowRead More I'll just suggest going to the .99 cent stores. You can get everything from 100 packs of #2 pencils to college ruled notebooks and binders, to pens and highlighters. We go there weekly and send boxes of school supplies, crayons and coloring books to our troops in Afghanistan to help them befriend the locals. The biggest score is cans of party string that usually go for $5. They spray it into a room and the streamers will hang on any tripwires without setting off the bomb. And try asking the store manager if corporate might be willing to throw in 2 for the price of one or a bakers dozen on highly stocked items if you can get several other teaches to also shop there. It never hurts to ask.
