NOT GUILTY all counts -- I called it right

I like making bold predictions -- especially when I'm right -- but I said months ago that George Zimmerman would be found not guilty on all counts.

(My Facebook friends can verify this one if they so choose -- I put my prediction there instead of on The Patch....sorry for that.)

This verdict was obvious because the Florida prosecutors in this case overcharged Zimmerman. If they had gone straight for manslaughter, they might have won the case.

But no! The DA bowed to politically correct pressure to make this the race trial the media wanted, so now the DA in Sanford has to face the fire for being incompetent as well as cowardly.

(This would be a great time to mention that I covered the courts beat in San Bernardino County for the Press-Enterprise from 2004 to 2009.)

I've covered racial cases before. They seldom work out as the media ever wants when the facts enter the public courtroom.

But as the case zipped by, it was clear the prosecution had no case -- and that was even before his star witness lied on the stand, something a jury never forgives.

But the biggest loser in the Zimmerman trial is the media. If the media didn't want to relive the OJ Simpson verdict, this case would have been a local case in Florida. We Californians may never have heard about it.

The second biggest loser is President Obama, who -- yet again -- injected himself into the media limelight by claiming that his son would have looked like Trayvon Martin.
