An Olympic marathon runner has decided to join in a project to inspire ill children to fight their sicknesses.
Meb Keflezighi will hold a news conference Thursday to announce the partnership, which will also include Medals of Courage, a charity started by a local mother who lost her son to a shark attack.
Just before he died, he donated a medal he won to the hospital, as a gift for a sick child.
Many of the children that receive medals from athletes are battling cancer, according to published reports.
The news conference will be held 11 a.m. at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Lobby, 11234 Anderson St.
Medals of Courage founder Candace Ransom will join the Olympian, LLUCH patients and administration at the event.
Thursday marks 100 days before the Olympic marathon race in August.
Keflezighi will share with LLUCH the medal he attained at the Olympic trials in January in Houston, which earned him a spot on the US Olympic Team.
The medal will be on display at LLUCH throughout the duration of the 2012 Olympic games, according to information officer Briana Pastorino.
However, there is no word whether Keflezighi will eventually donate the medal.
