99 Year Old Home Scorched After Lightning Strike

The home that was struck was built in 1912 and is in the 1400 block of Pacific Street.

The roof on a home built in 1912 was set blaze by a lightning strike on Sunday.

The home in the 1400 block of Pacific Street was struck just after 7:30 p.m. Redlands Firefighters found smoke coming from the shake shingle roof.  As Firefighters entered, they discovered fire burning underneath the shingles, officials said.

One resident was home when the lightning struck a decorative roof cone, fire officials said.

After extinguishing the flames, Firefighters remained at the scene for more than two hours searching for hidden fire and ensuring that the interior of the home was protected from water from fire suppression efforts and the rain, officials said.

The estimated damage was $25,000 to the home and about $10,000 damage to contents. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury, officials said.

Five engines, a paramedic unit and two chief officers responded. Police temporarily closed down the narrow street.
