Alleged DUI Driver Shears Fire Hydrant, Spout Floods 2 Loma Linda Homes

Jessica Soojung Han, 21 of Loma Linda, was arrested early Sunday May 27 on suspicion of hit-and-run without injuries and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the sheriff's department.

A 21-year-old woman was allegedly driving drunk when her vehicle struck a fire hydrant in Loma Linda, and the resulting water spout flooded two homes, sheriff's Central Station personnel reported Friday.

A non-injury hit-and-run crash was reported early Sunday May 27 on Poplar Street near Huron Street in Loma Linda, deputies said in a statement.

"The Sheriff's Department had received reports of a red vehicle colliding with a fire hydrant before fleeing the scene," the statement said. "The fire hydrant erupted with approximately 25 feet high water spout into the yard of the reporting party."

Responding deputies found the suspect's vehicle abandoned on a nearby street, and a short search on foot they found the owner and driver of the vehicle, a 5-foot-4-inch, 110-pound woman, hiding in a front yard attempting to evade arrest, according to the Sheriff's Department.

"Loma Linda City Fire and Loma Linda Department of Public Works responded to the scene and shut off the fire hydrant however two area houses were flooded as a result of the large amount of water," the statement said.

Jessica Soojung Han, 21 of Loma Linda, was arrested at 3:27 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of hit-and-run without injuries and driving under the influence of alcohol/0.08 percent, according to the sheriff's department.

Han was released before noon the same day, according to inmate records.
