Attempted Kidnapping of 3 Teen Girls Reported in Redlands: Suspect Sought

The kidnap attempts were reported about 3 p.m. Wednesday May 16 in the area of Orange Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, a police spokesman said.

A man tried to coax two teenage girls into his vehicle and threatened a third Wednesday afternoon in Redlands and police are looking for the suspect, the department announced Saturday.

The kidnap attempt was reported about 3 p.m. Wednesday May 16 in the area of Orange Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement.

A 15-year-old girl was walking home from school near Orange and Pennsylvania when a man driving a late-model white, four-door sedan pulled up to her, told her to get into his car or he would shoot her, Baker said.

"The victim ran away and the car was last seen heading west on Pennsylvania," Baker said. "No gun was seen and the driver did not exit the vehicle."

Police responded and learned of two additional victims who had been approached by the same suspect less than 30 minutes earlier, Baker said.

"Those victims say the man tried to coax them into his vehicle but did not threaten them," Baker said. "All three victims are females between 15 and 17 years old."

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, clean-shaven with short brown hair, Baker said.

"The Redlands Police Department urges all residents to be aware of their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious activity to police," Baker said. "Whenever possible children should walk with adults or in a group and never approach a stranger's vehicle."
